Atomos monitors are all high quality screens that are calibrated in the factory prior to shipment. Like all monitors however, they will exhibit color drift over time and so for that reason like other premium monitors, we allow users to calibrate the screen after purchase.
Atomos partner with calibration leader X-Rite for screen calibration. Specifically, we use the i1Display Pro in conjunction with the Atomos calibration serial cable (ATOMCAB004). For users that already own the i1Display Pro to calibrate their editing monitor all you need to purchase is the ATOMCAB004. For people with out it you will need to purchase both units.
With the exception of the Ninja2 and Ronin products, all Atomos monitor-recorders can be calibrated using the steps described below.
Step 1 - Turn on the Atomos unit and connect the USB to Serial LANC cable (ATOMCAB004) into the LANC/REMOTE port and the USB plug into a Windows PC or Mac.
Step 2 - Prepare the X-Rite i1Display Pro for calibration by rotating the protective cover of the X-Rite i1Display Pro to reveal the glass. Place the X-Rite i1Display Pro on the LCD display of the Atomos device. The round foam pad around the i1’s sensor must sit flat on the LCD to ensure that no light can enter. NOTE: The X-Rite i1Display Pro must remain stationary during the calibration process.
Step 3 - Downloading and prepare the software. Head to www.atomos.com/support, select firmware updates and select X-Rite calibration. Download and unzip the software for either Mac or PC, open the installer program and follow the steps to complete the install. Click Finish once the software is installed and open the software from the Application folder or the Desktop Shortcut.
Step 4 - With the software installed and the unit connected correctly the X-Rite i1 should be detected. Press calibrate to start the process. The Status will change from Idle to reflect the progress of the calibration. Once complete a message box will appear, press OK and close the installer. Calibration process now complete, the RGB curves will be displayed on the graph to show the calibration result.
